What Happens When an EV Battery Fails?
A battery fault is not always a dead battery
A warning may be caused by a cell imbalance, temperature problem, sensor fault, contactor issue, insulation fault, communication problem or another component of the high-voltage system.
The battery management system
The BMS monitors cell voltages, temperatures, current, state of charge and other parameters. It can limit power or charging when a condition falls outside safe operating limits.
Professional diagnosis
Technicians should follow the manufacturer’s high-voltage safety procedures before testing or opening a battery system. Scan data and diagnostic trouble codes should be interpreted together.
Do not replace the pack by code alone
A DTC can identify a monitored condition, but it does not automatically prove that the complete battery pack is defective.
